Today's websites are increasingly dynamic. Pages are no longer static HTML files but instead generated by scripts and database calls. User interfaces are more seamless, with technologies like Ajax replacing traditional page reloads. This course teaches students how to build dynamic websites with Ajax and with Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (LAMP), one of today's most popular frameworks. Students learn how to set up domain names with DNS, how to structure pages with XHTML and CSS, how to program in javascript and PHP, how to configure Apache and MySQL, how to design and query databases with SQL, how to use Ajax with both XML and JSON, and how to build mashups. The course explores issues of security, scalability, and cross-browser support and also discusses enterprise-level deployments of websites, including third-party hosting, virtualization, colocation in data centers, firewalling, and load-balancing.

Using D2 Software's award-winning NUKE, this lecture explores complex systems and approaches for compositing workflows. Rob explains the use of Pan and Tile environments, where 2D images recreate a full 3D environment. All aspects of the compositing process are discussed, including professional methods for pulling keys from difficult greenscreen material. Rob goes over a few methods in meticulous detail for getting a clean key, even when faced with heavy motion blur and significant spill. This lecture provides a seldom-seen look inside the compositing process to aid the viewer's development as a professional compositor. Rob uses Nuke 4.3 to teach this tutorial.

This lecture demonstrates a technique that encourages the artist to pursue three-hour figure gesture studies in 3D. These 3D gesture 'paintings' allow the artist to experiment and avoid being consumed with the detail work ordinarily associated with the medium of 3D.

While a reference photograph is used for the purposes of the lecture, the techniques have been developed under the time constraints of working in front of a live model. Techniques will be demonstrated for the three phases of creating a quick study; modeling, texturing and lighting using ZBrush, 3D Coat and Modo. Each of the phases will be built from the ground up, and the purpose of each component is demonstrated. This methodology can easily serve as a foundational 'underpaint' for a more polished, realized work. When the underpaint is solid, more finished work is solely a matter of adding additional layers and filling in details.

The heart of the package is 17 hours of lecture recorded onto 15 audio CDs. (15 CDs in a set, that’s a record for us!) They are accompanied by a spiral bound Audio Companion which is a hardcopy of the PowerPoint slides that Mark talks from in class. The CDs are packaged in a side-zipper CD case.
You’ll get the most out of this audio seminar by listening to it start to finish (although not all in one sitting, of course!) while referring to the Audio Companion book; that’s the optimal setting. That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t learn from the seminar without the Companion close to hand, not at all. Mark wanted this seminar to also work well for those listening in the car or exercising; that’s one of the reasons that he decided to restructure the seminar specifically for the audio recordings.
